On May 29, 2025, the Brazilian National Data Protection Authority (“ANPD”) launched a public consultation with the means of gathering contributions from society regarding the processing of biometric personal data.

At a time when biometric data processing is increasing across various scenarios, this initiative represents an important step toward future regulation of the subject and seeks to understand the risks, benefits, uses, and limitations associated with the collection and use of this type of data, which is considered sensitive under the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (“LGPD”).

The deadline for submitting contributions is June 27, 2025, and submissions can be made through an electronic form available on the ANPD’s website.

This is a significant opportunity for companies, civil society entities, researchers, and other parties interested and willing to provide technical, legal, and operational insights on the use of biometric data in different contexts—such as authentication, security, and access control, among others.
